World AIDS Day has been on 1st December since the campaign started in 1988.
HIV currently affects more than 34 million people worldwide and in the past 30 years over 25 million people have lost their lives fighting this deadly virus. The campaign aims to help those currently living with HIV as well as raise awareness on a global scale.
Although the widespread affect of AIDS is not as prevalent as it once was, this does not mean we must not be aware of its effects. Since 1988 we have made considerable scientific advances in combatting the virus but the threat of HIV still remains. Worlds AIDS Day raises funds for more research and on the whole improve knowledge about the virus in an attempt to educate the public about the facts.
We would like to urge all users to play their part in supporting this campaign. Below are a few ideas on what you can do to make a difference:
- Raise money for the National Aids Trust through fundraising and sponsored events.
- Help educate your family and friends. If you are aware of how the virus is transmitted and what measures can be taken to prevent it, share this with the people around you.
- Wear a red ribbon and show your support! For more information on red ribbons please clickhere.
